BMW 100R Mystic Motorcycle

Sporthot | 9:59:00 AM |
BMW 100R Mystic Motorcycle
This BMW R100 R Café Racer has received the custom treatment, giving it a sleek copper finish. This one-of-one was created by Vincent Degano, who developed an interest in BMW motorbikes because his father rode them as part of his job in the French police. Degano usually only works on Scrambler models but this time wanted to work on a Café Racer, choosing the R100 R as his vehicle of choice.

Degano first etched clean and painted the engine and wheels black. He then sandblasted the rest of the bike before using a custom copper powder coat and faux copper paint to cover the bodywork. In addition to this he added a new axel and 2010 speed triple forks.

Switzerland’s Angry Motors motorbike shop hasn’t been opened for long. It’s safe to say, though, that its mark on the industry has already been made. One of their newest projects is a remake of a 1989 BMW R80RT.  This rough, rugged reinterpretation of a true classic. The bike is named the “T63”, and boasts a striking iconic boxer engine, a mono-shock at the rear, and a number of other features. These include a custom leather seat, monotone handlebar controls, bing carburetors, stainless bolts and other pieces. With all this, it’s no wonder this bad boy has gotten the attention it has. Expect to hear more about Angry Motors from here on out.

Review: Audi R8 V10

Sporthot | 1:34:00 AM |

The entire week I spent behind the wheel of this stunning, steerable projectile, one word kept popping into my head: “delicious.” Seriously, the 2017 Audi R8 V10 is a sports car bursting with so much flavor, you can almost taste it. The sanded-wedge bodywork alone had me smacking my lips long before I even climbed into the driver’s seat, but once there, with the V-10 alive right behind my ears, the glorious cockpit of leather and aluminum and winking screens laid out before me, the flat-bottom steering wheel thick in my hands, my senses were on full anticipatory alert, every bit as primed for an unforgettable repast as if I’d just taken a seat for dinner at New York City’s Le Bernardin.

The R8 V10 — all new for 2017 (the V-8 version is dropped) — is a unique machine, with a taste unlike any other automobile’s. With its light controls and designer cabin, it feels dressier and more delicate than a Porsche. It’s calmer, less tightly wound than a Ferrari. It’s nowhere near as brash as the Lamborghini Huracán with which it shares its chassis, transmission, and engine. The R8 is deceptive, harder to pin down than its rivals. Ease it around town for a while, in fact, and you could easily be convinced that it’s really just a two-seat luxury grand tourer, a snazzy transport that places style and plushness above liver-twisting thrills.

But here’s the truth: that’s totally wrong.

At low revs, yes, the R8 is all politeness and manners. There isn’t much torque on tap down low, so it doesn’t surge away from stoplights like many of its beefier brethren. And thanks to magnetic shocks and Audi drive select (now standard), in comfort mode, it’s even a gentle ride. Ah, yes, do pass the salmon croquets, please. But get the R8 out into the mountains, switch it into dynamic mode and press the gas down until the tach needle is swinging past 6000 rpm and — holeeeee heaving horizon!!! — suddenly the subtle flavors of those elegant hors d’oeuvres have been torched under an onslaught of flaming Sriracha chili. Let me tell you: when gunning toward its 7800-rpm power peak, this thing screams. Again, it’s unique, a sound different even from what you’ll hear in its Lambo sibling. But it’s electrifying just the same, a howl that, for all its pulse-raising stridency, sounds utterly polished, Swiss watch-like, the valves and gears and con rods whirling away to well-oiled perfection mere inches from your skull. It’s delicious, all right.

Optional Dynamic Steering ($1400) varies the wheel resistance based on vehicle speed and the drive select mode you’ve chosen. I left the R8 in Dynamic nearly all of the time I had the car. For one, Dynamic kills the annoying engine stop/start feature. More important, though, it adds a welcome sharpness to the suspension while also upping the throttle and transmission responsiveness. I always used the paddle-shifters, too; the 7-speed S Tronic dual-clutch transmission is every bit as quick and satisfying as the PDK gearbox I’d sampled in a 911 Turbo only a few weeks earlier. And, hoo-boy, does that Quatto-fed chassis hang on to the pavement. Normally I associate “Audi” with “understeer,” but the R8 V10’s front end kept right on biting the more I wound in the lock. For sure, much of the credit owes to the potent computers firing away to maximize grip and handling poise. In fact, if necessary, the Quattro system can feed 100% of the torque to the front wheels — though in practice any shifting in torque bias is all but imperceptible. All you feel is a car that goes right where you point it — without ever stepping out of line.

For all of the R8’s mind-bending speed — it can blow to 60 mph in just 3.5 seconds and reaches a top speed just one digit under 200 mph — this is also an automobile you could happily live with day in and day out. As mentioned earlier, the cockpit is a feast for the eyes — gorgeous diamond-stitched red leather seats, quilted Alcantara dressing much of the space, artful dash shapes, smartly engineered displays. Rather than a central LCD screen above the center console, the R8 aggregates everything — performance gauges, nav directions, info for the standard Bang & Olufsen audio system, and more — into a single wide screen behind the steering wheel. At first it takes some getting used to — almost every other car separates the speedo/tach data from the infotainment stuff; the absence of a central display is almost startling. But after a day or two, I was loving the R8’s approach. If you were a fighter pilot, you’d get it right away — everything you need right there on your HUD. In the R8 it’s all there around the tach. Live Google maps show you exactly where you are and where you want to go. Call up other systems using the big MMI controller on the center console. Shift to reverse and an excellent rear-parking camera appears in the screen to guide you effortlessly into your space. This is ergonomics done right — and with flair.

There’s no denying the deliciousness of the R8’s sheer presence. My test car was dressed in optional carbon-fiber side blades and engine compartment ($5600). The available silver-finish 20-inch wheels ($1500) added refined muscle. And for the real show-stopper, just step around to the back. There, under glass, lies the big, beautiful V-10 in all its German-perfected glory.

Don’t ask me to justify the $183,000-plus sticker. After a week savoring the Audi’s culinary delights, my taste buds are too enraptured to find much fault. The meal is worth the lofty bill. This latest R8 is one delectable dream machine, a car to make any garage the most prized (and visited) room in the house. I knew how much I love this car when I had to say goodbye. In mere minutes, I was hungry for more.

Mercedes has made a GT4-spec AMG GT racer

Sporthot | 3:10:00 AM |
Mercedes GT4-spec AMG GT

This is the Mercedes-AMG GT4. The AMG GT circle of relatives is going to be quite huge – there’s already a GT and greater effective GT S, with the madcap GT R and svelte GT C cabrio at the horizon.

They’re all road automobiles, however there’ll be racecars too. we've the AMG GT3 now – a massive-winged, horrifying component – and now there’s a GT4. It’s intended to be the greater approachable, novice-pleasant AMG GT racer, a factor made visually with its less in-yer-face aero kit and dinkier rear spoiler.

These things are all relative, of course. It’s still a large spoiler. And there’s still an evil searching diffuser, equipped to batter unsuspecting air into submission. It’s still a car so that it will require a modicum of expertise to get the fine out of, we suspect.

Right here’s what AMG boss Tobias Moers says: “The Mercedes-AMG GT4 is any other vital step inside the continuing enlargement of our Mercedes-AMG motorsport programme.
Mercedes GT4-spec AMG GT

“The exceptional comments of our client sports groups regarding the AMG GT3 and the growing hobby for GT4 race vehicles reinforced us in our selection. we are extremely joyful to cope with an even large goal organization of amateur and professional drivers and teams within the future with it.”

specs are conspicuous through their absence, and you’ll be aware those are sketches, now not photographs. but anticipate the auto will seem on circuits subsequent yr. It’s were given exciting opposition, too, with the whole thing from a Ford Mustang and Porsche Cayman to a McLaren 570S and KTM X-Bow coming in GT4 shape.

2017 Jeep Compass

Sporthot | 5:26:00 PM |

Although it’s based on the same Fiat Chrysler Small Wide 4×4 Architecture that underpins the Jeep Renegade, Fiat 500X, and Fiat 500L, the new 2017 Jeep Compass is slightly larger than its brethren, competing more with Honda’s CRV, Toyota’s RAV4, Ford’s Escape, and Hyundai’s Santa Fe. Except, according to Jeep, unlike the Compass’s competitors, the compact crossover will be equipped with more rugged capabilities, allowing it to tackle everything on and off road.

This Compass will be a truly worldwide model, being offered in over 100 countries, built in four countries, and available with five different engine options, three transmissions, and a host of tech integrations, giving consumers the ability to finely tune their perfect ride. There will also be two 4×4 systems, Jeep’s Active Drive full time 4×4 system and Jeep Active Drive Low, a class-exclusive full time 4×4 system with a 20:1 crawl ratio. Both can send 100 perfect of available torque to any one wheel thanks to intelligent 4×4 logic built into the Compass’s ECU.

Both 4×4 systems also come with Jeep’s Selec-Terrain system, allowing the driver to choose from five different modes, including Auto, Snow, Sand, and Mud. For consumers wanting more off-road prowess, Jeep will also offer a Compass Trailhawk featuring a Rock mode, Selec-Speed Control with Hill-Descent Control, an increased ride height, skid plates, front and rear tow hooks, and unique front and rear fascias that allow a 30-degree approach angle, 24-degree breakover angle, and 34-degree departure angle. The Trailhawk Compass also can tow up to 2,000 lbs and ford up to 19 inches of water.

In the U.S., consumers will only have one engine option, the 2.4-liter Tigershark I-4. In this application, it produces 180 horsepower and 175 lb-ft of torque. In addition to the 4×4 systems, buyers can also get a more economical 4×2 layout. A nine-speed automatic comes on 4×4 models while 4×2 models make do with a six-speed auto. Additionally, either drive configuration can be had with a six-speed manual instead.

Unlike the Renegade, which has a somewhat divisive exterior, the Jeep Compass looks like a miniature Grand Cherokee. The exterior has been thoroughly touched to give the Compass a dramatic roofline and muscular fenders, at least according to Jeep. It also has LED tail lamps, and an available dual-pane sunroof.

The interior the Compass, however, appears to be carried over entirely from the Renegade, featuring the same cockpit layout and materials. It will be offered with Chrysler’s most advanced UConnect system, which includes Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, among other available apps.

“Our all-new 2017 Jeep Compass enters an extremely important and growing segment worldwide, and does so with an unmatched list of attributes that includes benchmark 4×4 off-road capability, exceptional on-road driving dynamics, fuel-efficient powertrains, countless advanced technology and safety features, all wrapped in a premium, authentic Jeep design,” said Mike Manley, Head of Jeep Brand – FCA Global. “Built around the world for customers everywhere, Jeep Compass raises the bar in the compact-SUV segment.”

2016 Dodge Challenger 392 Hemi Scat Pack Shaker Review

Sporthot | 2:14:00 AM |
2016 Dodge Challenger 392 Hemi Scat Pack Shaker

Purple is not a color that can be worn successfully by just anyone — or just any car. A considerable amount of swag is required, and even then the shade of purple has to be chosen extremely carefully. Fortunately for us, the 2016 Dodge Challenger 392 Hemi Scat Pack has more than enough to pull off the oh-so-on-point Plum Crazy — a shade that commanded attention even on the jaded streets and freeways of Los Angeles.

But there’s more to this Challenger’s style game than just a purple paint job. Curbside presence is significantly increased by the Shaker hood and black side stripes, while the gunmetal 20-inch wheels are the proverbial rug that ties the room together.

Getting the look right requires the checking of several boxes on the option list. First and foremost is the Shaker package, which adds $4,800 to the sticker. It’s a worthwhile investment since it gets you the badass (and functional) hood scoop and numerous other cosmetic treatments that include the flat-black filler cap, glossy black grille, and rear spoiler. Ticking the box also gets you heated and cooled leather sport seats up front and a heated, leather-wrapped, and power-adjusted steering wheel.
2016 Dodge Challenger 392 Hemi Scat Pack Shaker

You’ll want to follow up by selecting the $1,195 Scat Pack Appearance Group, which adds suede and Nappa leather upholstery, HID headlamps, and removes the oversize Shaker stripe, replacing it with the “Bumblebee” side stripes. Lastly, you’ll need to part with another $1,095 to get the right wheels.

In addition to those options, our tester came with Sound Group II ($795), which adds a 506-watt, nine-speaker stereo system with a subwoofer and navigation ($695). Despite those options and the $1,400 that’s added to the bottom line by going for the automatic, the total price was still below $50,000.

Beyond the look and the price is the not-so-small matter of what’s under that Shaker hood and between the Bumblebee fender badges. That happens to be a naturally aspirated 6.4-liter Hemi V-8 that pumps out a hefty 485 horsepower and 475 lb-ft of torque. In addition to coaxing the 4,240-pound Challenger from 0 to 60 mph in 4.2 seconds and dusting the quarter mile in 12.6 seconds, it treats your ears to a wonderful big-bore growl that tempts you to turn every commute and errand into a windows-down romp.

While we would have certainly preferred the six-speed manual, the eight-speed automatic suits the Challenger’s cruiser personality well. It’s plenty quick to downshift following a hard press of the throttle and doesn’t waste much time hunting for gears. The T-shaped shifter remains clunky and is a far cry from the greatness of the manual’s pistol grip offering, however.
2016 Dodge Challenger 392 Hemi Scat Pack Shaker

Our week with this Challenger included a 1,000-mile road trip to Nevada to cover the 2016 Virginia City Hillclimb. Unsurprisingly, it proved to be an excellent long-distance tourer, remaining a comfortable place to be even after a 500-mile day. The large footprint makes for a roomy cabin that doesn’t leave you feeling claustrophobic like those of the Camaro and Mustang, and we found its mildly bolstered seats supportive and comfortable. Given how hot it was during the drive, we were particularly thankful for the seats’ cooling functionality and suede inserts, seeing how suede is much cooler to the touch than leather. The upgraded stereo also proved impressive while cruising up the Eastern Sierras and filled in ably for the exhaust note while we had the windows up.Though we didn’t have all 485 ponies on hand while on the 395 (U.S. Route 395) or in Virginia City due to the mile-high-plus elevation, we were never left wanting for power. Steering is typical of today’s electric power-assisted units — fairly light, linear, and with minimal feedback. Brake feel is on the spongy side, though the stoppers are good enough to bring the Mopar beast to a complete halt from 60 mph in just 108 feet.

Like every other modern Challenger, it doesn’t handle like sports car. While it can turn when pushed to do so, the suspension is clearly more touring-oriented. It’s simply too soft with too much body roll to keep over 2 tons of sheetmetal firmly planted on the tarmac. And given the car’s weight, the brakes are liable to get properly cooked when pushed.

But you’re not buying a 2-plus ton, 16-foot long, purple muscle car for its ability to crush a canyon; there are far better options for that job. You’re here because you want enough swagger and curb appeal to command respect even while sharing a valet line with Lamborghinis, Ferraris, and other exotics. And you made the right choice.
